Astobiza Estate

Jandiola, Okendo, Araba

Framed within the Denomination of Origin Protected Txakoli de Álava, the uniqueness of the cultivated vineyard and the winemaking technology used achieve wines of pronounced personality and excellent quality. Astobiza wines are made exclusively from grapes produced in this vineyard, with a closed production system, meaning that it has a winery sized only to process the harvest produced in its own vineyard. Therefore, its production such as Vinos de Pago or Finca wines, where the characters of the viticultural ecosystem are reflected in the wines produced.

Our vineyard is located in the small rural municipality of Oquendo, in the province of Álava, about 30 minutes from Bilbao, on a 10-hectare estate divided into 7 microplots. Located 250 meters above sea level, it is protected by mountains and far from the valley floor, which shields it from fog and harmful winter frosts. 100% of our grape is from native varieties, mainly Ondarrabi Zuri, something of Ondarrabi Zuri Zerratie (Petit Corbu) and a small plot of Izkiriota known as Gros Manseng.

The Winery

The winery facilities were established in 2006, after 10 years of exclusive viticulture, since the initial planting in 1996, producing the first harvest in 2007.

Conceived as a professional exploitation unit, Bodega Astobiza is born and developed with the purpose of growing in innovation and quality.

From the Abando-Moyua family, Xabier Abando, a passionate wine entrepreneur and promoter of the winery, and Begoña Moyua, Lady of Astobiza and total support of Xabier, provide the exciting drive to it. Astobiza is governed by the principles of transparency, closeness, and identification with the family project, something that is also consistent with a philosophy based on innovation and research.

In Spain, there is a group of winemakers who live for and strive to achieve exceptional wines. Winemakers who love their estates and respect the environment that surrounds them, as if they were true jewels. People who cultivate the land with the same dedication and care that mother nature provides to her vineyards the best resources (soil, nature, climate). And even extraordinary beauty.

When these winemakers met and tasted their wines, they realized that they not only shared a passion and work philosophy, but that they could also take a step further by working together to achieve exceptional wines. Then arose Great Payments of Spain.
